Nestled against Okanagan Lake within the embrace of the Okanagan Valley is the magnificent city of Kelowna, where we love helping people find homes in Kelowna as much as we love this fine city of ours. If Kelowna is new to you, when you get to know a bit more about it, we think you will fall for Kelowna too.
Kelowna takes its name from the Okanagan Indian language; translated it means “grizzly bear.” There’s nothing grizzly however, about Kelowna’s weather with its warm summers and mild winters. The valley itself enjoys a climate ideal for vineyards, and is home to many fine wineries, whose products have received international recognition.
Along with a number of fine vineyards, Kelowna is surrounded by the best that nature has to offer. Okanagan Lake is perfect for swimming, boating and fishing. The nearby mountains provide ample opportunities for hiking and biking, while three major ski hills are within a one-hour drive.
Kelowna features a wide array of amenities. Along with fine dining and a variety of quaint shops, Kelowna is home to several theatre groups, the symphony orchestra, Ballet Kelowna and numerous museums and art galleries. Kelowna is home to the sizable campuses of Okanagan College and the University of British Columbia-Okanagan.
Our fair city also has a sense of whimsy to it, thanks to its most famous resident–Ogopogo. Since the 19th century, many have spotted this 15-metre-long sea serpent peaking up from the 110-km long Okanagan Lake. Whether it is real or not, Ogopogo’s statue in a children’s park is waiting for the kids to say hello.
With all the amenities of a major city and the most picturesque beauty nature can provide, it’s really no wonder that 90% of Kelowna residents told the Canada Pulse survey “My city is a great place to live.” And you can live here too. When you’re ready to make that step, please do not hesitate to contact us.
